Reinstating a Cancelled Policy

Policies which have been cancelled may be eligible for reinstatement. If eligible, the cancellation banner on the policy page will display a Reinstate button.

Account prerequisites:

  • User permission: Policy update
  • Policy has been marked as Completed

During the reinstatement process, the policy holder will need to settle all unpaid historic payments billed against their account. If the insurance product has stepped premiums or CPI increases enabled, and the policy would have been renewed between cancellation and reinstatement, any applicable premium increases will be applied.

Once any reinstatement balance is paid, the financial account will be up to date, and future scheduled payments will be collected as normal.

How to reinstate a policy

  1. When a policy is cancelled, a banner appears indicating the cancellation status. If the policy meets eligibility rules and a user has sufficient permissions, a Reinstate button will be visible in the banner. You may need to either mark the cancellation as Complete or add an external transaction to balance the account to $0 (if one has been made) in order to see the Reinstate button.

Note: Reinstatement eligibility is based on both:

    • Policy configuration (specific conditions for reinstatement may vary per policy product)
    • Cancellation status (must be in completed status)
  2. Click the Reinstate button to open the reinstatement wizard. This will show any balance owed by the policyholder in order to reinstate the policy. This balance includes any outstanding historic payments due up to the reinstatement day, plus an additional day's charge since billing is processed the following day.
  3. Click complete to finalise the reinstatement request.

Reinstatement status and payment

If no balance is due:

After completing the reinstatement wizard, if no balance is due and the amount to reinstate is $0, the policy will be reinstated immediately.

If a balance is due to be paid:

  1. The policy enters a "pending reinstatement" status.
  2. On the next business day, the outstanding balance will be charged to the policyholder's existing payment method. If this reinstatement payment fails, the policy will be cancelled.
  3. Once the balance has been paid successfully, the policy will be reinstated.

If the period between cancellation and reinstatement would have had the policy's renewal anniversary fall within it, then after the policy is reinstated the renewal comms will be sent out straight away. These are the comms that were generated on the anniversary but not originally sent, as the policy was inactive at the time, which means the dates printed will be the original renewal dates rather than the reinstatement date.
